American Truck Beds doesn't wait for inventory to walk through the door. We go find it — nationwide. Sourcing is the backbone of everything we do, and it's what sets us apart from a typical used parts lot or salvage yard. Here's how our sourcing operation actually works.
What "OEM" Really Means
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer — meaning the bed is the factory-produced unit that came standard on the truck. Not an aftermarket replacement, not a fabricated copy. The original steel bed that rolled off the assembly line. OEM beds fit perfectly, have factory panel gaps, correct mounting points, and factory finishes. They're the gold standard for a replacement bed.
Our National Sourcing Network
We source from multiple channels across the country:
- Fleet and dealer auctions: When fleet vehicles are retired, the beds come off and enter the market. We buy direct from these auctions across multiple states.
- Insurance salvage: Trucks that are totaled from front-end or cab damage often have perfectly good beds. We source these from salvage auctions regularly.
- Direct from body shops: Body shops that perform cab replacements or other structural repairs often have beds they need to move. We buy in volume.
- Dealer overstock: New truck dealers sometimes accumulate beds during model transitions. We purchase these in bulk lots.
- Private sellers: Owners swapping to flatbeds or service bodies sell us their factory beds directly.
What We Look For
Not every bed that comes to us makes it to our lot. We assess condition before purchasing — looking at structural integrity, panel straightness, rust status, and whether any damage is cosmetic or structural. Cosmetic issues (color, minor dents, surface rust) we can fix. Structural compromise, we don't buy.
Can You Request a Specific Bed?
Yes — and this is one of our most popular services. If you know exactly what you need (year, make, model, cab config, color), message us or fill out the contact form. We'll search our current stock and, if we don't have it, we'll actively source it through our network. Most specific requests are filled within 1–3 weeks depending on how common the bed is.
